Originally from upstate New York, Matt has travelled all over the country while teaching with a wide variety of public and private schools, environmental education programs, summer camps, tutoring companies and after school programs. His experience in traditional classrooms gave Matt a clear understanding of how poorly the educational system worked for some students. Leaving classrooms behind, Matt was drawn to the mastery learning philosophy of SIL, where he took over the Science department chair role in 2015.
Matt received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. When not teaching, Matt enjoys hiking, riding bikes, playing guitar, watching movies, tinkering with electronics, working on projects, eating chocolate, reading books, collecting tools, foraging, and identifying flora and fauna.
